Supporting Your Growth and Well-Being

At Compass Therapy, we understand that adolescence is a time of transition, self-discovery, and developing independence.

Our therapy services are tailored for young people aged approximately 15 to 25, recognising that this phase often involves navigating complex relationships, sexuality, future planning, and identity.

The key difference from childhood therapy is that adolescents typically seek to engage more independently, making their own choices about therapy, although family support may be more involved according to the adolescent’s preferences.

Our Approach to Adolescent Therapy

We employ a range of evidence-based techniques, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, EMDR, Client-Centered Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and behavioural psychology.

These approaches are designed to address the unique challenges faced during this transformative age, from managing anxiety and depression to exploring relationships, self-esteem, and life goals.

Qualifications and Experience

Our psychologist, Michael, brings over nine years of experience working, as a psychologist, with adolescents and young adults, including four years as a university counsellor.

Prior to that, he spent 11 years supporting youth in various residential care settings across NSW, Canberra, and WA, experience that has provided deep insights into adolescent development and mental health.

Our Philosophy

Our goal is to help adolescents develop the skills, resilience, and self-awareness needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.

We focus on empowering young people to build confidence, manage life’s challenges, and embrace their authentic selves.

We believe that true growth comes from within, supported by a respectful and collaborative therapeutic relationship.

The Therapy Process

  • Therapy for adolescents is a collaborative process focused on building trust and supporting self-directed growth.

Initial sessions often involve the young person, and depending on their comfort level, family involvement may be included or phased out over time.

As adolescents become more independent (noting that at age 18, confidentiality is fully respected unless there’s a safety concern), they are encouraged to take ownership of their therapy journey.

Session structures are flexible, with in-person or telehealth options, and are tailored to each individual’s needs and stage of development.

  • From age 18 onwards, therapy is confidential, and disclosures will only occur if explicitly permitted by the client or in situations of immediate risk.

We prioritise creating a safe space where young people feel empowered to express themselves honestly and openly, knowing their privacy is protected once they reach legal adulthood.

  • Referrals can be emailed to reception@suite306.com.au, faxed to (08) 9389 7789, or submitted through our contact form link.

We work with adolescents seeking support for a wide range of concerns including relationship challenges, sexuality, future planning, procrastination, self-identity, and emotional regulation.

We also welcome referrals from GPs, psychiatrists, or other healthcare professionals.
