During the first session, we will discuss your background, reasons for seeking therapy, and what you hope to achieve. This session helps us develop a shared understanding and goals for your treatment.

It’s helpful to email or bring with you your referral, any psychometric assessments you have had previously, former hospital discharge notes, journals; or anything you feel may be relevant.
What is crucial is that the three intake forms, which will be text and emailed to you prior to our session are fully and accurately completed prior to attending your first session.
Also, think about what you want to achieve from therapy, as this will help guide our discussions. It may be useful to write these down as they can be easy to forget upon first meeting.

Sessions typically last 50 minutes, but longer sessions can be arranged if necessary; at an additional cost.

The frequency of sessions can vary based on your needs. Initial sessions may be weekly, moving to bi-weekly or monthly as progress is made and goals are achieved.

Michael’s fees are in line with industry standards and are currently set at $330/50min session or $450/90min extended session. Please note that these fees do change on the first of July each year; in accordance with APS recommendations.

At least two full working days’ notice for cancellations. Cancellations with less notice incur a 100% cancellation fee.

Michael works with a wide range of clients ages 13 and older. He will tailor his approach to meet the individual needs of each client.

Michael is trained in Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), EMDR 2.0, CBT-Enhanced (CBT-E) for eating disorders, Reminiscence Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Gottman Couples Therapy (level 3 trained) and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. He holds an interest in Personality Disorders, Trauma and ADHD treatment. He is additionally trained in sexual, religious, neurological, and racial diversity.

Progress can often be noticed in your mood, thoughts, and behaviours. Regular feedback during sessions will help Michael assess your growth towards the goals you have set together. Additionally, psychometric testing will be used to help measure development.

You are welcome to bring someone for support, but it's essential to discuss this prior to the session to ensure it aligns with your therapy goals. It is noted that Medicare now allow for up to three Support Person Sessions per calendar year as part of the 10 session allotment under a Better Access Mental Health Care Plan.

Michael’s practice is located at Suite 306, 91 Monash Avenue, Nedlands WA (Hollywood Hospital Consultation suites; near the Endoscopy Clinic). Paid parking is located right next to the clinic, at the back of Hollywood Hospital. Please enter through Gate 5 off Monash Avenue.

Michael works 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday with specific session times varying between those days depending on other appointments and professional commitments.
