Code of Conduct Policy for Compass Retreats

Purpose: The purpose of this Code of Conduct Policy is to outline the expected standards of behaviour for all clinicians, staff, and participants involved in Compass Retreats. This policy aims to provide a framework for ethical practice, promote a positive and respectful environment, and ensure that all interactions align with the values and standards set by the Australian Psychological Society (APS), the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and the Psychology Board of Australia (PBA).

Scope: This policy applies to all employees, contractors, clinicians, and participants involved in Compass Retreats. 

1. Values and Principles

The Gateways Program is committed to the following core values, which guide the conduct of all members:

Respect: Treat everyone with dignity, consideration, and courtesy, valuing the diversity of individuals and their backgrounds.

Integrity: Act with honesty and transparency in all professional interactions, maintaining trust and accountability.

Compassion: Foster a supportive atmosphere that encourages empathy and understanding for the experiences and challenges of others.

Collaboration: Promote teamwork and open communication among all members, valuing contributions and perspectives.

2. Professional Behaviour

All clinicians and staff are expected to:

Adhere to Ethical Standards: Comply with all relevant ethical guidelines set forth by the APS and PBA. This includes maintaining confidentiality, obtaining informed consent, and providing evidence-based interventions.

Maintain Professional Boundaries: Establish and maintain clear professional boundaries with clients to prevent dual relationships and conflicts of interest.

Uphold a Positive Environment: Foster a positive group environment by promoting inclusivity and addressing any forms of discrimination, harassment, or bullying immediately.

Engagement and Participation: Actively engage in group activities and discussions, contributing constructively to the program experience.

3. Responsibilities of Participants

All participants are expected to:

Respect Fellow Participants and Staff: Treat others with kindness and consideration, valuing differing perspectives and backgrounds. This includes local staff in hosting nations/facilities.

Commit to the Process: Be open and receptive to the therapeutic process, actively participating in activities and discussions.

Feedback and Communication: Share feedback constructively and communicate any concerns or issues directly and respectfully to facilitators or clinicians.

4. Breaches of Conduct for staff

Failure to adhere to this Code of Conduct may result in repercussions, including but not limited to:

One Verbal warning.

Three Written warnings.

Termination from the program, depending on the severity of the breach, or after three written warnings.

Any concerns regarding breaches of conduct should be reported to Michael Spark, who will take appropriate action in accordance with established procedures.

5.        Breaches of Conduct for Participants

Failure to to adhere to this Code of Conduct may result in repercussions, including but not limited to:

Verbal warnings.

Temporary Suspension from the program.

Alternative lodging being organised.

Specific activity access being revoked

Termination from the program, depending on the severity of the breach, with no refund offered.

Any concerns regarding breaches of conduct should be reported to Michael Spark, who will take appropriate action in accordance with established procedures.

6.        Reporting Mechanism

Individuals who experience or witness any unacceptable behaviour are encouraged to report the incident promptly to a clinician, program coordinator, or designated contact person. If you do not feel that your concerns have been responded to appropriately, escalate to reporting directly to Michael Spark- Director. All reports will be treated with confidentiality and investigated thoroughly.

7. Review of the Code

This Code of Conduct will be reviewed annually to ensure its relevance and effectiveness. All staff and participants will be informed of any updates or changes to the policy.
